About Amanda Shirnina
Dr. Amanda (Bosworth) Shirnina is a translator and editor in St. Petersburg, Russia. She earned her PhD in history from Cornell University in 2020. Her dissertation concerns transnational relations across the North Pacific region following the transfer of Alaska from Russia to the United States in 1867. After earning a bachelor’s degree in history education from Olivet Nazarene University and teaching with Teach For America, Dr. Shirnina was history department chair at Maspeth High School, the “Classical High School of New York City,” where public school students were required to take four years of Latin and read such classics as Herodotus’ Histories. Dr. Shirnina has published in the International Journal of Maritime History, Perspectives on History, and Alaska Park Science, a journal of the National Park Service.
