About Robert M. Hutchins

Robert Maynard Hutchins (1899–1977) was an American educational philosopher. He served as Dean of Yale Law School, and President and Chancellor of the University of Chicago. While at University of Chicago, Hutchins implemented wide-ranging reforms of the University including a novel pedagogical system built on Great Books and Socratic dialogue. Hutchins is the author of The Great Conversation and The Higher Learning in America.
