Many Americans agree that something hasn’t smelled right about this pandemic from the beginning, something in the air that smacks of calculated panic and political engineering. The coronavirus will pass, God willing, but perhaps in its place will come another disease—the relentless leftwing virus.

Donald J. Trump has been criticized and condemned for calling COVID-19 the “Chinese virus.” Seeking to antagonize on any and all occasions, Democrats have accused the President, yet again, of racism, xenophobia, and being orange. They are on the attack even as the nation reels beneath a pandemic, hysteria, and the total disruption of normal life that it has caused. Or that some have caused. Those concerned with truth—most especially Christian Americans—must not catch the bug that liberal legislators, pundits, and media sources will invariably attempt to infect the American mind with. The coronavirus will pass, God willing, but in its place will come another disease—the relentless leftwing virus will skew and distort to force out the man who will not succumb to the sickness of the swamp.

Many Americans agree that something hasn’t smelled right about this pandemic from the beginning. Besides there not being sufficient data to justify the extremity of the reactions, and without downplaying the threat to the lives of the sick and elderly, there is something in the air that smacks of calculated panic and political engineering. It is not the stuff of conspiracy theories to suspect—or even expect—that movement leftists will take full advantage of this upending of American calm, American lives, and the American economy to lay a steaming pile of blame at the President’s feet in their determination to destroy his chances at a second term.

Progressives are very likely terrified enough of what a second-term Trump will look like that they might assist, or at least stand by and watch, an economic collapse—just so long as it is on Mr. Trump’s watch. If uniparty governors and lawmakers can close enough businesses to create a scenario where the President will be unable to go on a debate stage and tout a booming economy, who’s to say they wouldn’t do it? If they can make this his Katrina, they will. The American people are not safe from desperate Democrats.

The sad fact is that the art of politics in America is no longer about right or wrong, or justice, or even the common good—at least it’s not for those who make it big in the ring. It’s all about winning, about maintaining power, and playing the game of lies that bestows a twisted species of victory and power—all that the devil could offer Christ after His forty days. If there is an angle to win in pandemic politics, the Left will lunge for it with everything they have.

Now, as everyone knows, this President is also all about winning. He has made a meme and a mockery of himself over his seeming obsession with it, and, to be fair, it is sometimes off-putting to those who uphold conservative values and Christian virtues. But the good that has been wrought for this country and the lines he has drawn in the sand far outweigh this streak in his personality that is somewhat cut from the cloth that makes so many career politicians so reprehensible.

For example, it was tremendous—historic, really—that the President took a stand for the unborn and for the sanctity of human life at the March for Life this year; but one of his remarks stood out as strange in such a clear act for the good:

Sadly, the far-left is actively working to erase our God-given rights, shut down faith-based charities, ban religious believers from the public square, and silence Americans who believe in the sanctity of life. They are coming after me because I am fighting for you and we are fighting for those who have no voice. And we will win because we know how to win.

We will win not because we know we are in the right, or because we know the teachings of Jesus Christ, but because we know how to win. This, unfortunately, is the language of American politics and it is a language that Mr. Trump knows well; but fortunately, he does not follow the established—or the establishment’s—rules. He has resisted their system in so many ways and he has won, and that has driven Washington to distraction. He has not knuckled under or adhered to party lines. Instead, he has been a President who has been presidential according to his lights and his lights alone—and has won and done much good on account of it.

In short, the President is not part of the machine, and the machine is rising against him as the election looms. President Obama’s chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, famously said during the financial crisis of 2008, to never let a good crisis go to waste. Make no mistake, his fellows are mobilized with the spread of the coronavirus. But their hypocrisy should make the cure worse than the disease, as the President said. One moment there are not enough press conferences, the next moment they should not be televised. Truth must not be a victim of the coronavirus.

All in the name of controlling COVID-19, the shadow of Big Government has taken control in nearly every sector of American life. President Trump’s words at the March are very apropos these days as churches, charities, schools, and businesses are being shuttered with an unsubstantiated, preemptive rush, quarantining the American people in an environment of fear. Political theater played out in Congress over some liberal pet-projects, blocking the bi-partisan emergency relief package for a spell, and prolonging the national tension to divert it with all the punch that CNN and the NYT can pack towards the President and his party. And as the coronavirus curve flattens, the leftwing virus will begin to spike.

This pandemic will be weaponized long after it runs its course. The Left will extort this crisis to advance their political agenda now and later this year to sway the course of the election, giving foreign interference in an American election a new meaning. Americans on the side of truth must stand ready to recognize this manipulation and resist it. Christians must prepare to defend the President, and also prepare to repel the infection of untruth. The White House’s response to coronavirus is already being lambasted as a gross failure in order to make the President responsible for the loss of American lives and livelihoods—but the enemies of this administration are also the enemies of truth.

For the time being, Americans should be cautious, follow the mandates, and be smart and safe in Christian charity and prudence. In the near future, Americans—with Christian Americans on the frontline—should do whatever they can to combat and tear down the false narratives and orchestrated issues that will be used as leverage to overthrow a President who is working for the people. Pray for an end to the war against coronavirus, and for strength in the war that is coming against the leftwing virus. We will win because we know the truth.
