It is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succour of those years wherein we are set, uprooting the evil in the fields that we know, so that those who live after may have clean earth to till. ~J.R.R. Tolkien, “The Lord of the Rings”
Dear Friend of The Imaginative Conservative:
Soon, the United States of America will celebrate the 250th anniversary of its independence. And rightly so, though conservatives understand that the republic was not created by a single masterstroke, but by the decades-long work of many “little platoons” bound by mutual devotion and faith.
Indeed, only the unyielding faith of the American people—in God, in family, and in each other—will sustain our republic, especially in these troubled times. And this faith is called “love.”
We may find hope for America and the West in the words of Pope Leo XIV, who reminds us that “the civilization of love will not arise from a single or spectacular gesture, but from the sum total of small and steadfast acts of fidelity that serve as a bulwark against dehumanization. For this reason, it is worthwhile pausing to reflect on some aspects of how we, each in our own way, can cooperate in building the civilization of love.”
At The Imaginative Conservative, we seek to do our part to build “the civilization of love” by lifting your spirits and bringing to your life things excellent and praiseworthy.
Less than a week after America’s 250th celebration, we will mark the 16th anniversary of our founding as a journal that pursues the True, the Good, and the Beautiful. Please join us in our mission by making your donation today.
Rest assured that every gift, large or small, joins with our labor and prayer to restore the best of the Western Tradition. All donations may be made annually or in monthly contributions.
We are truly grateful for the generous financial support of our readers, who help us, as J.R.R. Tolkien put it, “uproot the evil in the fields that we know, so that those who live after may have clean earth to till.”
Sincerely,
W. Winston Elliott III
